Originally written as a personal “love letter” to a gay friend struggling with the decision to come out, the song has become an anthem for gay rights activists, anti-bullying campaigners and as a source of inspiration to the ill. Then along came a song called Brave, taken from her most recent album, last year’s Grammy-nominated The Blessed Unrest. The mammoth success of the song also threatened to overshadow the rest of her work - certainly nothing from her 2010 release, The Kaleidoscope Heart, made anything like the same impression, even if the album itself entered the US charts at No.1. ![]() Lightning first struck with her 2007 hit Love Song, which topped the charts in 22 countries, became one of the highest selling singles of 2008 and was nominated for two awards at the 2009 Grammys. ![]()
